At the core of machine learning,, one lesson is becoming crystal clear: data is the new oil. It powers everything. Without data, even the most advanced algorithms are just empty shells. But with enough quality data, machine learns, adapts, and improves. My own study journey has been proof of that, progress only comes when the inputs are consistent and reliable.

Interestingly, I found the same principle in running. This morning, we had a shakeout run to prepare for the upcoming Peñafrancia Marathon 21K. Because of the weather and cough and colds, I had skipped running earlier this week.

That pause reminded me of a common running myth: if you stop running for just a few days, you immediately lose your speed. That simply isn’t true. Just like machines doesn’t instantly “forget” what it has been trained on when the data flow slows, runners don’t lose their hard-earned fitness in a matter of days. What truly matters is the overall consistency built over weeks and months.

In both machine learning and running, short breaks don’t erase progress. What matters is how well the foundation has been built.
In my next post, I’ll dive into 10 common running myths and why we need to rethink them.
“In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.”
Albert Einstein
Hidden patterns are the real power, and to running, where holding back early often leads to stronger finishes.
