Why BOLT?

words of Fr. Gary Adversario, Parish Priest, St. Francis of Assisi Parish

BOLT, the Buhi OverLand Trail, is a 25km trail run by catergory through green hills and mountains surrounding Lake Buhi. Many will see the challenge. More will join for a reason – for a personal best, some for the spirit of camaraderie and friendly contest, others for scenic nature, and still some others for a cause; but for surely, for the fun in it all.

BOLT is Buhi calling all to join in the care for land and people.

BOLT celebrates the parish and town’s 441’s founding anniversary since 1578 – also the 300th year of the La Obligacion appeal for stable governance of 1718, the recovery after the recent calamity of 2018, and on the year of youth this 2019.

BOLT honors the enduring will for life of a people through volcanic eruptions (naka-buhi) to build a community as Marayag (Marahay na raga) where even the smallest edible fish in the world (sinarapan) can thrive. It will also benefit physical improvements and facilities of the parish church that is witness to Buhi’s past and welcome for its future now.

BOLT is for Buhi. Located at the south-eastern part of the province of Camarines Sur, it is bound on the east by Mount Malinao, on the west by Mount Asog, on the north by the Sagnay mountain ranges and on the south of low-lying ranges of Polangui, Albay, making the town’s surface terrain gently sloping at 25% in an approximate average elevation of 3,900ft. Buhi remains pristine with natural features, a verdant habitat for many endemic plant, animal and fish species.
